It is about Sarah Palin. But that won’t stop me from saying the word vagina a few times.
Today the New York Times teaser asked if we could write in Sarah for Hillary. Can I? Well, it takes up less space on the page by a few letters. I certainly can spell just fine, but I am unwilling to scratch out or blot out Hillary’s name. Her accomplishments stand today just as well as they did three days ago before I had ever heard Sarah Palin’s name. Hillary Clinton’s future is bright with possibilities as we look forward to an Obama admnistration. Her impact on our country is not over yet, and for that I am grateful.
Sarah Palin is female. She is a new governor of a far away state where global warming is easy to see. What does she say?
A changing environment will affect Alaska more than any other state, because of our location. I’m not one though who would attribute it to being man-made.
Cool trick. She avoids actually saying global warming. Hillary Clinton actually gave an entire speech about America’s energy future.
Here’s one for all the die-hard Hillary supporters: Sarah Palin wrote on op-ed about healthcare. In it she sums up a few things she is doing in Alaska to“allow free-market competition and reduce onerous government regulation.” Hillary supports universal healthcare. Those don’t sound the same to me. or to my vagina.
Listen, I do want women in office. I do. And it is even okay with me if women in office have different policies than those I would enact. However, that doesn’t make me want to vote for them. Supporting the Lilly Ledbetter Pay Equity Act makes me want to get out the vote. Oh, hi there, Joe Biden.
With apologies to Sarah Palin, her vagina does not make me want to vote for her. And I’m very sorry to say that it seems to me that there are some men in the Republican party who picked her to be Vice President, but really they have just found a new way to use a woman’s body.
And that seems to be as a shield. They are hiding behind this woman. Sticking her way out in front – who can create attacks ads against a working mother of 5 children, one with special need & one on the way to Iraq? That’s not a job anyone on Obama’s staff wants. They are hiding behind her fertility & her parenting choices- the Internet rumors that she is pumping milk, that she wears her baby in the sling around the office. I do not want to be represented by a woman who went back to work three days after giving birth. I don’t know what it means that she did that. And yes, I am judging her now, but did she feel she had to do that? Was she unable or unwilling to take maternity leave? Because, we need paid parental leave in this country.
I don’t care that much about her parenting choices. I am deeply concerned about the policies they may or may not represent. Since she has virtually no political record, I have nothing but Internet rumors to go on here. This is not super inspiring to me. Or my vagina.
I’m not dazzled by McCain’s choice. I am not even a little impressed. His choice reflects exactly this: what he thinks he needs to win, someone young & conservative. It reflects one more thing: he is a little crazy and clearly thinks women are a more than a little bit dumb – I’m not confused by her vagina, her breast milk or her baby sling. Sarah Palin is not my candidate. And if you were going to vote for Hillary, she is not yours either.
If you are a conservative, maybe she is your candidate – and sorry I said vagina so many times in this post. I’m a birth doula. Next time I say vagina, it’ll be in reference to a baby. Maybe.
Also, if you are a conservative, I know it makes you crazy to hear me talking this way because you thought I was a Christian. Well, I am.
Thanks Momocrats for keeping us all tidy in our rage!
Yeah, I hate the assumption that just because someone’s a woman I’m going to vote for her.
You know, I am kind of impressed by the choice. I think it was well played by McCain. Does that mean I’m changing my vote? No. She’s a mother, great. She’s a special needs mother, great. She’s a successful woman, great. But until she or her running mate realize that there is a healthcare crisis (among other things, but this is my BIG issue this election) that needs to be ACTIVELY handled, then there is just no way I can vote for them. I wonder how she would feel if she didn’t have that great government employee insurance for Trig and she was trying to get coverage out in this WONDERFUL free market. Maybe then someone would realize there is a crisis out here.
BRAVO….I love christians who can say Vagina in a political blog post, but then again, Im a little biased.Best.Blog.Post.Ever.
I’m stumped over all the comments from Hillary supporters who say they’re voting for McCain now that he’s picked Palin. Complete polar opposites, except for, yes, the vagina.
And don’t forget the boobies. He’s pandering and insulting.Oh, and by the way, I work in Human Resources. I am a director. When I hire an employee they have to go through three stages of interviews, in addition to reference and background checks, with at least four people. As far as I can tell, that means my search for the right person to work at the FRONT DESK goes through a more rigorous process than McCain put Palin through. Don’t get me wrong, the front desk is an important job. But the only button they are near pushing is the button to let guests in.
Yes. I try to stay one step removed on all the posts about American politics, but I must admit that I am reeling that the McCain campaign just seems to assume that the vaginas of the White House are interchangeable. Sarah Palin’s politics, as far as I’m concerned, are scary and anti-woman. And now, let’s see how it all plays out…
Brava, Karen. Bang on.Sarah Palin scares the bejeezus out of me.
sing it, sister. me and my vagina say no way, no how, no she.
i’m watching it all from north of the border, too, and i’m stumped…i just don’t get how anyone who supports Hillary’s policies could be pleased about Palin unless their sole goal was to see women – whatever women – in power. i can’t imagine being that simplistic in my voting.btw, lots of fascinating (possibly scurilous) shit is hitting the fan about Palin and her youngest child…certainly she made some interesting choices.
Well said!! Home run!!!! Amen!!!When I hear the millions of voices saying “take that BHO! Now all of Hillary’s supportors will vote GOP!” I’m like…what?!?!? That’s the most insulting-to-women thing I’ve ever heard.
Oh, and this post (by a conservative Republican) pretty much sums up the rest of my confusion about his pick.
Well said! It’s not interchangeable at all–the policies. They’re not interchangeable at all—the people. And so much—okay everything—about this woman is completely counter to what I believe and how I think things need to be considered and handled.Great point about the family leave.
